About Okinawa

Okinawa is a sub-tropical island located in the south of Japan in the Pacific Ocean. There are 169 islands that make up the Okinawa islands, and the main island has approximately 1,433, 571 inhabitants covering an area of 1,206.96 square kilometers.

Okinawa was historically part of an independent kingdom, known as the Ryukyu Kingdom, which has been essential to the development of the Okinawan culture, unique to the rest of Japanese culture.

With the beautiful surrounding sea, its natural forests, and UNESCO World Heritage sites, Okinawa has so much to offer! Its location close to the tropics allows for the cultivation of sugar cane, banana, pineapple, and sweet potato.

Tourists from other parts of Japan and around the world make their way to Okinawa because of its famous crystal clear waters and the opportunity to participate in thrilling water sports, including scuba diving.

Below you will see two graphs showing the average ocean and air temperatures in Okinawa throughout the year.

Certified Dive

We offer many options for boat and shore dives for certified divers. Due to the difficulty level, there are a few dive sites that we only recommend for advanced divers. You can get to know which dive sites suit you best by having a look at our Dive Sites page, which lists a description of each site, along with maximum dive depth and recommended level of certification.

If you are not a certified diver yet, please check out our Diving Courses menu and learn more about the basic PADI Open Water Diver course.

If you do not have the time to get your certification in Okinawa, but want the chance to do a diving or snorkeling activity, please do not hesitate in contacting us. We offer Discover Scuba Diving and Snorkeling as day activities.

Okinawa is a world famous diving location. Don’t miss the chance to experience its underwater landscapes and marine life!

Discover Scuba Diving

Have you always wondered what it’s like to breathe underwater? If you want to try scuba diving but are not quite ready to take the plunge into a certification course, Discover Scuba Diving is for you. This program can be conducted in a pool, from the beach (shore dive), or from a boat. While not a scuba diving certification course, Discover Scuba Diving is a quick and easy introduction to exploring the underwater world. To participate, you must be at least 10 years old. No prior experience is necessary, but you must be in reasonable physical health. Are you ready to try it out? Contact us right now!

Snorkeling

Have you ever imagined being able to see an entirely different world from the surface? By snorkeling, you can explore the coral formations, colorful reef fish, and geography of the crystal clear waters of Okinawa! To do this activity, you only need a mask, snorkel, life jacket, booties, and fins. Even if you are not a confident swimmer, a PADI instructor will be by your side at all times so there is no need to worry. This is also a great opportunity for a parent-child activity!

You can decide if you’d like to spend the day on the boat for this activity or, if you’re short on time, snorkel from the beach. Either way, you’re sure to have a great time!
